Jason Garcia dipped his chin in acknowledgment of the comment, but didn’t slow his pace or look at the anesthesiologist walking alongside him.
“The patient’s thoracic aorta was dissected. His coronary artery was lacerated. And he had several pulmonary contusions. Nobody could have survived that. The only mystery is how he stayed alive long enough to make it onto the table.”
Hearing Dr. Mason recite injuries the patient sustained when his Prius collided with a Range Rover going eighty miles an hour on roads slick with early September rain was nothing short of annoying. Jason wanted to point out that as the cardiothoracic surgeon on the case, he had in fact been in the operating room, so he didn’t need the instructional on the injuries. But he didn’t want to say or do anything to extend the conversation, so instead he grunted.

Oooh, I just loved this one you guys! ...What is so wonderful about The Half of Us is the way author Cardeno C really elevates the story beyond just this fears commitment/wants a relationship dynamic in a way that makes for a fascinating story and wonderful characters. ...Jason doesn't see a future for himself with anyone long term and it never occurs to him he can have that. But as the relationship with Abe slowly builds, Jason goes with it. ...It scares him sometimes, and definitely surprises him, but Jason goes with it in a way that is really appealing. I absolutely loved the dynamic between Jason and Abe! ....Jason and Abe were on fire from the second they met. ...Their connection was so strong from day one. And, true to form, CC brings the heat, but also the quirky and fun.
I found the novel to be a super enjoyable, modern, thought-provoking take on the evolution of a relationship between two adults, both of whom bring their own characters, problems, and, sometimes selfish, needs to the table.... the characterization and style of writing really draw you into the story, making it a thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing read. In Jason and Abe, Cardeno C. has created two characters you care about from the get go, while the witty banter, hot sex scenes and the depiction of their everyday domestic life make you really believe and support them as a couple.
I enjoyed The Half of Us. It made me smile and laugh. It's well written, has a good flow, sizzling chemistry, nicely crafted relationships and great secondary characters. It's an entertaining read and I hope you like it as much as I did.
